T-Minus…3..2…1

Welcome to my new home on the web! This is once again Craig Orndorff, who you may remember from the Shenandoah County Republican blog, the Valley Republican, or various comment sections. If you don’t remember any of those D-list outings, you may have met me at any place in Virginia where there are more than two Republicans at any given time.

All kidding aside, with this new venture I hope to finally do what I’ve always hoped to do with blogging: offer up news on both policy and politics with my unique conservative perspective, spiced up with musings on history and my life. Why now? After the last presidential campaign, I found myself completely exhausted and frustrated. By no means have I given up on politics; I still believe in the unique power of individuals to effect change in a liberal democracy.

And that’s just what I want to do: extract myself from the campaign apparatus and make my voice heard, practicing politics on my own terms. I want to rediscover just why I got involved in the first place: to forward the conservative ideals I so strongly believe in and help those candidates who believe in them get elected. I may return to formal involvement someday, but right now, I want to re-explore the political process with a fresh perspective, and I want to bring everyone along for the ride.

So why the name? Well, I wanted something that stands out and that shows just where I’m coming from. I’ve always seen the west as indicitive of the American conservative spirit: always seeking that free place in which to fully express our human potential. Additionally, I am a seventh generation Valley resident. This was America’s first frontier, and I hope through this blog to retain some of that rebellious western spirit.

In addition to the blog, I’m launching a thirty minute podcast: The Big O Show. Yes yes, I know, a stark contrast to the name of the blog, but I’m a sucker for rhymes. The show will cover the same subjects as the blog, but hopefully with a bit more flair and whimsy.

Well, that’s the long and short of things. Stay tuned, and I hope I can count on you for the journey.
